Providing places for atheists, humanists, freethinkers and other non-believers to engage in social interaction and dialogue is an essential component for the free exchange of ideas. Bearing this thought in mind, the Humanist Action League (HAL) has recently opened a freethought reading room. The reading room provides atheists, humanists, freethinkers and others with a place to visit with each other, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and read or study the latest, or oldest, in freethought publications.
This room also provides a small meeting space for classes, lectures, debates, discussions, socials or even game nights. Overall, the new reading room is seen as a place for freethinkers along Colorado's Front Range to strengthen their camaraderie and their community.
The freethought reading room is open Monday through Saturday during normal business hours and by appointment at other times. To inquire on the room's availability please call 719-574-3972.
The reading room is in the process of developing a library and providing a comfortable setting for freethinkers. To date freethinkers have donated atheist, humanist, freethought and progressive magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and books, as well as furniture and money. HAL will continue taking donations of these items in an effort to make this facility an incredible resource for patrons. Naturally, financial donations are always appreciated as they allow for versatility in providing what is needed at the given time.
Plans are for the reading
room to evolve into an office and social/recreation center with a larger
meeting room, kitchen facility, smaller rooms for children and an expanded
library. Through effort and perseverance, and no prayer, HAL plans to
build THE resource for atheists, humanists, freethinkers and other non-believers
in the Rocky Mountain Region.
